Can being “Positive” feel Forced?

We are in a world where there is a lot of negativity. Staying positive is the new trend. As much as it sounds good, sometimes it may feel forced. The very pressure of staying positive becomes a bit much when it isn’t like that in their real world. There is this one gift of life where one should feel just as they do, instead of what others want them to.

What is forced or toxic positivity?

Forced positivity is the thought that people dealing with a disease need to continually portray themselves in an optimistic mood or light, and that thinking “on the bright side” will help with the hurt. This is awfully common on social media where people are anticipated to only show the good side of their lives.

The term 'toxic positivity' refers to the idea that focusing on the alleged positive emotions and reject anything that may activate negative emotions is the right way to live a life.

The pressured feeling

This kind of feeling also depends on person to person. But for many, it’s turning out to be a false notion. When others are telling you to believe in the power of nowit sometimes backfires on the person. They are going through so much, that it may not be applicable.

How to deal with it?

While it is the common way to deal with situations, by seeing the brighter side of every situation, sometimes feeling the way you do is the best. It is a way to vent out. They are real feelings that one should acknowledge rather than having forced, maybe, a delusional, concept. The emotional intelligence is too rightfully being angry for a while, if you must and then take actions- whether you feel positive or negative. The point is not to sit on it and take action.

There is a common good in positivity. Studies have shown that people do improve if you think like that. Our brain is constantly observing the emotional tone of your thoughts—too many pessimistic thoughts and your brain react by creating stress and grief in your body. When you add more optimistic thoughts, your brain will produce relaxation and happiness.

A spiritual being is having to live with however you feel. If something is forced on you, it is not the kind of living one wants. And it goes the same goes for your emotional state. They are the most natural thing that makes us who we are.

Having Grit and Exploring Spiritual Feelings

Resilience is bouncing back from any hardships that any person may face in life, coming back stronger, mentally, and physically from that hardship and moving on to make a more meaningful life. Grit refers to the willpower that an individual shows in pursuing his long-term goals. For any person to demonstrate resilience and high grit, he should have a  positive   orientation in life with profound values and purpose through which they attain meaning in life. It can be assumed that if the level of mysticism/spirituality would below, there will be low grit as well as low resilience observed.  Spirituality is a private belief that acts as a sieve through which an individual perceives and understands the world. It influences how they live, how they react to stressful situations, how well, and how speedily he recovers from moving strain. It gives a sense of meaning to this  gift of life  and may or may not contain belief in higher divine supremacy. People with a sp...

What are the odds?

What are the odds that we were born on this planet? What are the odds that there is life beyond this galaxy? What are the odds of getting the coronavirus again even after the vaccine is made? There are questions that we all crave answers for. While some will answer what you want to hear, the  positive , others will be objectively answering it. Biomedical research habitually focuses on the discovery of relationships (associations) between variables (phenomena or attributes). It is significant to note that association may or may not signify a causal relationship. This depends on numerous factors.    This is the  gift of life   that everyone needs to accept no matter what the answers. You are here and will be here for as long as your life permits.    Coincidence or accident?   Many believe in serendipity, signs, telepathy, things that are beyond our explanation. Some believe in the  power of now .  it is said that there is a w...

What is a Meaningful Life?

Some people seem to spend their whole lives disgruntled, in search of a reason, a  positive   purpose. Philosopher Iddo Landau advocates that all of us have everything we need for a significantly meaningful existence. A meaningful life is one in which there are enough aspects of adequate value, and pointless life is one in which there is not a satisfactory number of aspects of sufficient value.  Simplicity    For a life to be precious, or important, it needn’t have to be unique. Believing that specialness is tied to meaning is another error many people make. This mistaken belief leads some people to unreasonably see their lives as inadequately meaningful and to miss ways of enhancing meaning in life. They forget the  power of now   and this  gift of life .    We move, we meet new kind people, have fresh experiences, bump into new ideas, and age. As we change, our values alter, and so does our sense of purpose in life, which w...
